Geoff MacPherson is from Gisborne on the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island. The youngest of eight children in a farming family, Geoff went to school but the only subject he really enjoyed was English. He still feels guilt when he thinks of his Accounting teacher!
This all changed when converted aged eighteen. Although he was part way through a National Diploma in Horticulture, sensing God’s call to pastoral ministry, Geoff returned to school to complete his University Entrance exams. Enrolling at the University of Auckland he completed a B.A. in Philosophy and Greek.
At the end of 1993 Geoff became married to Marie, also from Gisborne.
After a year working for a well-driller, he enrolled as one of the first three fulltime students to attend Grace Theological College. After two-years fulltime study, Geoff was invited to undertake a pastoral ministry internship at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Church. While there he completed his pastoral Ministry Certificate, and his M.Div. through Birmingham Theological Seminary. Geoff was ordained to pastoral ministry in 1999.
After ten wonderful years in Christchurch, Geoff and Marie were asked to return to Gisborne to help establish Grace Church-Te Whare Atawhai there. After six years, they accepted a call from Trinity Presbyterian Church in Takanini, Auckland, where Geoff is pastor.
Geoff has completed graduate studies at Christ College, Sydney focusing on the New Testament.
Over the years he has taught Greek, Systematic Theology and Biblical Theology for GTC.
Geoff is the principal of GTC and he and Marie have three sons.
